Hours to the kickoff of the African Cup of Nation-Afcon qualifiers between the Uganda Cranes and Malawi alias The Flames, the Federation of Uganda Football Association-FUFA is accusing the hosts of tempering with the Covid- 19 test results of Ugandan players.
It came after the Uganda Cranes camps received news indicating that Taddeo Lwanga had tested positive for Covid-19. Lwanga replaced Khalid Aucho who was dismissed from the camp for indiscipline. FUFA’s medical team has raised complaints about the positive test results.
“We are aware of the irregularity raised by our Medical team in regard to the Covid-19 test results of Taddeo Lwanga. Two tests have returned different results. We have written to CAF about this matter raising the concerns,” said FUFA’s Communication Director, Ahmed Hussein.
Adding that, “FUFA has requested CAF to consider the results from the SADC Accredited Laboratory, which is under the same management as Queens Central Hospital. Two tests show different results, the boys have remained strong despite the issue at hand,” Ahmed Hussein told URN.
He told URN that CAF has cleared Lwanga to play in the do or die affair this evening. Uganda is looking for a draw to qualify for the Afcon finals while Malawi needs a win to progress. Uganda is second in Group B with 8 points while Malawi has seven points.
