Gen. Katumba Wamala Attempted Murder Case: Suspects Remanded In Absence Of Lawyers

Lawyers from Wameri and Company Advocates representing the suspects in the botched Gen. Katumba Wamala murder attempt didn’t not show up in court today as the case was coming up for mentioning.
Lead counsel Geoffrey Turyamusiima and his colleague Hamza Ssekidde at least one of them has been expected to be in court today since they have been handling the case since it started.
Record Radio learnt that the duo has been at High Court for the ruling on the bailing application filed for Yusuf Nyanzi and Hussein Sserubula at the same time court was supposed to sit in Nakawa.
This did not stop the court proceedings in which the Nakawa Grade one magistrate Ponsiono Odwori informed the suspects that their lawyers are not in court.
The prosecution led by State Attorney Rose Aoja asked for an adjournment, saying investigations into the matter were still ongoing.
In his ruling, His Worship Odwori adjourned the matter to November 4, 2021 for further mentioning.
Seven (7) suspects namely; Yasin Nyanzi, Hussein Sserubula, Muhammad Kagugube, Sirimani Kisambira, Abudalllah-Aziz Ramadhan Dunka, Kamada Walusimbi and Habib Ramadhan Marjan who appeared in court via zoom from Luzira prison asked the magistrate judge to read for them the new charges implicated on them the last time the court convened.
He (the magistrate) promised to forward the charge sheet to them through the prisons officer representing in court.
Another suspect Huazaifah Wampa also appeared via zoom from kigo prison.
In an interview with Record Radio, lawyer of the accused, Geoffrey Turyamusiima who arrived at the court after the session said that they are now going to file bail application for the remaining six (6) suspects, since they had initially applied for Yusuf Nyanza and Hussein Sserubula.
He added that, they were allowed to visit the suspects at Luzira prison if they have COVID19 vaccination card.
The eight (8) suspects are implicated in the attempted murder of Gen. Katumba Wamala, his bodyguard Sgt Khalid Kuboit and Boniface Mucunguzi, also indicted with the murder of Brenda Nantongo, the daughter of Gen. Katumba Wamala and his driver Sgt Haruna Kayondo on June 1, 2021 along Kisota road in Kisasi, a city
suburb.
Prosecution on September 30, 2021 added more 18 charges to 6 suspects including Muhammad Kagugube, Sirimani Kisambira, Abudalllah-Aziz Ramadhan Dunka, Kamada Walusimbi, Habib Ramadhan Marjan and Huzaifah Wampa.
The added charges include murder, attempted murder, aggravated robbery, rendering services to a terrorist group, financing terrorism activists and belonging to a terrorist organization.
