NIRA Calls Upon Public To Embrace Its Online Platform.

The National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) has encouraged its clients and the general public to utilize the online services during this pandemic season.
This stride has been taken in an attempt to keep up with ongoing efforts to ease access to registration services as well as mitigating the risk of COVID-19 infection due to physical contact between staff and clients.
“The National Identification and Registration Authority wishes to inform its clients and the general public, that a number of its services can now be accessed online and do not require physical visits to our service centres,” the NIRA Management revealed.
Clients will be able to confirm their National Identification Numbers (NINs), access Letters of Confirmation of Information and track status of application via NIRA website under the Services menu.
NIRA has also revealed that all these services were decentralized and are available at the 117 offices across the country thus can be significantly used by the public therefrom.
“Clients can also request for replacement of lost National Identity Cards at any NIRA office and do not require to travel to the Kololo Head Office,” NIRA officials further revealed.
The National Identification body has however advised the public to highly utilise the online services and avoid physical visits to their service centres unless the service sought requires physical interaction with NIRA staff.
Also various stakeholders to NIRA including banks and telecoms have been informed of the use of online services and this all is in a bid to curb down the spread of the Corona virus.
Other NIRA services that the public can access online are applications for birth notification and notification records.
NIRA is a government body mandated to create, manage, maintain and operationeralise the National Identification Register by registering all citizens of Uganda, registering non-citizens of Uganda who are lawfully residents in Uganda, registering births and deaths, assigning a unique National Identification Number to every person registered.
