Written by on March 8, 2023

As the world celebrates International Women’s day, Namugwanya Gurtude, 61, a resident of Seguku cell B in Makindye Sabagabo in Wakiso district is in tears following threats from her co-wife.
Gertrude who argues that she moved into a clear piece of land with her husband in 1985 says that she put up the rentals situated on the land by herself adding that even after baring three children for her husband, her co-wife won’t let her share any of the man’s property.
‘When I decided to put the issue in law (LC1), They told me to drop the case since both of us have no ownership documents’ she told the Record FM reporter adding that according to the local council, the husband fully owns the property and he dodged the meeting. Gertrude says, further adding that she has been to  FIDA in vain.
About the documents, Gertrude says she’s never asked for them from the husband because she felt like her single role in the home was to prepare meals and other wife roles.
She now extends her cry to the President of Uganda and Prime Minister inviting them to come to her rescue saying that ‘the enemies have reached the extent of illegally sending away all the tenants’ causing her a lot of suffering.
The village committee through the women’s affairs representative, Nalumansi Birungi has requested the government to help the 61-year-old woman who they say has reached the extent of starving. Birungi called upon the women in power like the Vice President to come to the rescue of people like Gertrude.
