Speaker Among Threatens To Penalize “Lazy” Parliamentary Committees.

Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among has threatened to cut the budget for parliamentary committees that haven’t submitted their reports to date.

While presiding over the plenary, Among revealed that the executive arm of government tasked them to work on sixty (60) bills this term and currently little has been tackled yet next month they will go for a recess.

In response, Tororo District Woman Member of Parliament Hon. Sarah Opendi who was recently granted leave of Parliament to draft the Marriage Bill 2022 said that before the speaker blames committees, she should also call on Ministers to urgently attend committees whenever they are invited to answer some queries.

“Committees don’t work in isolation, if Ministers promptly attend committee meetings whenever they are called the work will be easy” Opendi noted.

Opendi added that the speaker should shift guns to Ministers who delay and at times don’t show up whenever they are called to the committees if she wishes them swift operations.
