Residents Scared For Their Man Power, Protest Mast Installation

Residents of Mirimu zone in Makindye Sabagabo, Wakiso district have protested the installation of a telephone mast saying it is dangerous to their health.

While in the meeting with NTC(the company responsible for installing the mast) yesterday chaired by the village  Vice Chairman, Dumba Elisha, the residents expressed their fear of being exposed to diseases like lung cancer, sleep disturbances, and reduced manpower.

   In the same meeting, the community accused the National Environment Authority (NEMA) official of not being honest about the dangers of the mast, further accusing local leaders including the chairman and some area councilors of taking bribes from NTC.

   While speaking with 97.7 record FM, the area woman councilor Faridah Nalwanga asked the NTC company to follow environmental guidelines by NEMA and prioritize the community for jobs in this project
