Interim Miss Uganda To Take On Title Until Situation Normalises. – Organisers

The COVID-19 situation brought to halt a number of activities and never spared the prestigious Miss Uganda Beauty Pageant. The beauty contest was not convened last year, 2020 due to this debacle.
In view of this, Elizabeth Bagaya, who was the first runner up in the 2019/2020 Miss Uganda Pageant was announced as the new interim Miss Uganda 2020/2021 earlier this year in April together with two runners up; Mariam Nyamatte and Petronella Acen.
Their term was effective with immediate effect to carry on with the duties of the office of Miss Uganda until a new Miss Uganda would be crowned later this year, 2021 in an anticipated big return of the event. This, however, seemingly won’t fall in place like earlier presumed.
Previously, Nakakande would keep hold of the crown and all the other title holders for at least another year as the 2020 pageant had been postponed until 2021 due to the treacherous Corona virus.
Nonetheless, Oliver Nakakande was unable to perform her designated Miss Uganda duties because she had to return to school in Dubai and could not strike a balance, a reason why Bagaya was chosen for the next queen.
With this new wave of COVID-19, the next beauty contest for the Miss Uganda will expectedly be hosted when the situation normalises at least according to the Miss Uganda CEO, Brenda Nanyonjo.
“Bagaya is going to be Miss Uganda until we select the new Miss Uganda because of what is going on. When the government opens everyone to do their events, that’s when we shall do the event. We cannot be an exception simply because we are a big organization,” Nanyonjo told 97.7 Record FM.
Bagaya is a 26 years old Ugandan female holding a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resource Management and is also a make-up artist by profession. At the time of her appointment, Bagaya was running her Bagaya Elizabeth Foundation that helps to extend financial and mental support to children at Butabika Hospital.
Bagaya was formerly the second runner up and Miss Photogenic in the 2019/2020 Miss Uganda Beauty Pageant that saw Nakakande walk away with the crown. Her appointment too, brought up Mariam Nyamatte, who was the second runner up as the first runner up while Petronella Acen, who is also the Miss Uganda North became the second runner up.
Miss Uganda was formed in 1967 as a Beauty Pageant and is a member of the Miss World, Miss International and Miss Universe. Since its inception, a number of beauty queens have soared the Uganda flag high both at home and globally. To note, Rosemary Salmon, a student at Makerere University then, was the very first lady to be crowned Miss Uganda.
