Expectations Of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s Address Tonight.

Written by on October 28, 2021

Senior Presidential Press Secretary, Nabusayi Lindah Wamboka announced on Monday that the Head of State, H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, is expected to address the nation today on the 28th of October at 8pm.

It goes without saying that the address shall involve a partial analysis of the Covid 19 situation in the country but all being that at the moment, the corona virus seems to be under control in the country with an infection rate of just over 2.8% as of yesterday.

However there are more pressing matters at the moment which the Ugandan people will expect the Commander in Chief to shed some light on. With two terrorist attacks in the form of bombing, in a space of just days , the population is tense and will require some sort of answers from the government that has overtime assured them that such an occurrence is nearly impossible in Uganda due to the efficiency of the Uganda Security forces. This belief was further echoed by the Uganda Police spokesperson, Fred Enanga, just days before the first attack.

The president is extremely cautious when it comes to terrorism. In 2015 as a panelist on the political talk show, he was asked by Kiira Municipality MP, Semujju Nganda,  why he has such a big and heavily armed security detail if he knows Ugandans love him and voted for him. In response, the president claimed that he would move around completely alone and unprotected if it wasn’t for the terrorist threat caused by Uganda’s involvement in Somalia.

Analysts are divided on what exactly the president will say tonight but many expect him to illustrate to Ugandans a solid plan to combat terrorists in the country and ultimately put an end to the senseless violence that has so far taken the life of two Ugandans. With a curfew already in place, some fear that the president is set to place other stringent security measures which might disrupt the day to day activities of the average Ugandan.

Like he did when narrated the famous Nakyambade story where he explained how the “Bigyambiya Killers” were defeated further guiding the nation on how to tackle similar situations.  He on another occasion addressed the nation about the Masaka Killing that had started to extend to other regions of the country but have since gone silent. It shoud be noted that several suspects including MPs Muhammed Ssegirinya and Allan Ssewanyana have been arrested in connection to the Masaka Killings.

Likewise a number of suspects have been arrested in regards to the recent bomb attack incidents.

Since it hasn’t missed as a talking point in almost all of his recent addresses, the president is also expected to hint on the amendment of the bail laws, his wish being, denial of bail and bond to suspects on criminal charges.

The Broadcast will air at 8pm on the 28th of October 2021 and it shall be broadcasted on all major media services live.
